What Is a Podiatrist?
Podiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in the treatment and diagnosis of everything related to the foot, ankle, and lower extremities. Podiatrists are the only physicians that focus solely on foot and ankle care. Many podiatrists such as Dr. Robert C. Brace of the Foot Center, have also extended their training to include surgery.
An orthopedic doctor who specializes in foot and ankle care is similar to a podiatrist, but a podiatric surgeon holds a doctoral degree in podiatric medicine in addition to specialized training in foot and ankle surgery, giving the podiatric surgeon the highest level of education and training available for foot and ankle care.
